158 Pages Later: The Email, the Courtyard, and the People Who Never Called Back

For a year, anyone who asked hard questions about what happened at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025 got the same label. Conspiracy theorist. Then, on Friday, September 25, 2026, the university released a 158-page independent review of its own, prepared by the Lake Forest Group after more than 70 interviews. On Episode 18 of The Amania Show, Amania Saluste opened it up and started at the beginning. Not the shot. The paperwork.
This is Part 1. Here’s what she found.
What the report is, and what it isn’t
The review is mostly about UVU. Its stated purpose is to learn what the university can do better. Its bottom line is careful: in the project team’s opinion, no UVU employee or agent acted “in bad faith or in willful and wanton disregard for the safety of others.” With hindsight, it says, the team found actions, omissions, and institutional practices that deserve attention.
Amania takes that at face value. The university wanted to protect itself, and it also wanted to fix things. Fine. But to answer those questions, the reviewers had to build a record. Emails, verbatim. Dates. Names. Who asked for what. And that record says a lot about how this event came together.
It started with one vague email
On July 10, 2025, Caleb Chilcutt, president of the Turning Point USA chapter at UVU, emailed the school’s club services office. A field representative from Turning Point USA had asked him to check whether the courtyard was available on September 10 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. His email, as printed in the report, is almost apologetic: “She is being very vague on what this event is about.”
Amania stops right there. From what former Turning Point staff like Candace Owens have described, big-name speakers usually go to chapters that earn them, chapters with members, activity, and a track record. Here, according to the report, the request came down from the national side. The chapter president didn’t even know what the event was.
So Amania asks. Who decided this event would happen, on this campus, on this date, in this spot? And why Utah?
“Those decisions were consequential”
From there the report lays out the path. A formal club request on July 18. Registration steps at the end of July. Tentative approval and major event review in August. And at an August planning meeting, UVU raised concerns about the outdoor Fountain Courtyard and suggested other options.
According to the report, Turning Point field representative Maycee Crofts wanted to keep the courtyard. The courtyard is where it stayed.
The report’s own words on that choice are hard to miss: “In our assessment, those decisions were consequential. The selected location presented greater open access, crowd management, high ground vulnerabilities, and line of sight challenges.”
Now put that next to what Brian Harpole, who oversaw Charlie Kirk’s security, told The Shawn Ryan Show: “That’s where they told us we had to have it. We weren’t optioned out anywhere else.” Amania plays that clip twice on the episode. She wants you to hear it clearly, then check it against the documents yourself.
The people who never answered
Here’s the part that stuck with her most. The review team says it made multiple attempts to reach Dan Flood, Charlie Kirk’s security supervisor. Phone calls. Voicemails. Email requests. Outreach to Turning Point USA’s national office in Phoenix. A certified letter. Flood did not respond. The report says other Turning Point security and event representatives didn’t participate either.
Amania’s question is simple. If you want to understand what happened that day, why wouldn’t you sit down with the people trying to write it down? Because nobody from that side came forward, the reviewers leaned on public interviews instead, including Harpole’s long sit-down with Shawn Ryan. And Amania argues that some of what he said there doesn’t hold up against the report. One example she raises: Harpole cited airspace restrictions around drones. The report notes that Orem’s police chief said his department could have provided drone support if asked with enough advance notice.
What the chief actually said
Then there’s the text exchange everyone has argued about for months. On September 8, two days before the event, Flood forwarded Chief Jeff Long a warning from the student group. People could get onto the Hall of Flags walkway, directly above the canopy where Charlie would sit. The chief replied that the area would be covered.
That’s it. That was the concern in the report: the walkway overhead. Not every rooftop on campus. Amania’s point is that the exchange has been retold as if the chief promised to cover every high point in sight, and the report doesn’t say that.
Which leaves the question she keeps coming back to. As Amania points out, Harpole himself has talked about walking in that morning and seeing the rooftops as a problem. A private security team was on site. If the high ground was the worry, why wasn’t one of their own people posted up there? “Somebody make it make sense,” she says. “Because it just doesn’t.”
The quiet weekend
The report dropped on a Friday. Amania went looking for coverage from some of the biggest names in conservative media, people who talk about Charlie Kirk constantly. On her read, a lot of them didn’t touch it. Meanwhile, the independent creators who’d been called conspiracy theorists for a year were reading it line by line.
She isn’t asking you to take her word for it either. “People are able to gaslight us because we are not reading for ourselves.” Read the report. It’s public. Make up your own mind.
What’s next
There’s a full timeline in those 158 pages that Amania hasn’t touched yet. That’s next week. Watch The Amania Show live every Wednesday at 12:30 PM EST on Facebook, YouTube, Rumble, and X, or catch it on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, iHeartRadio, and Amazon Music.
